Martin (Marty) W. Hettle, 85 of Grand Island Nebraska passed peacefully on Tuesday, March 28, 2023, at The Heritage at Sagewood in Grand Island, NE
Marty was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Sandra (Keller) Hettle on September, 5, 2022 at age 84.
Marty and Sandy were married November 23, 1957
A funeral Mass for both Marty and Sandy, is scheduled for Saturday, April 22 at St Catherine of Siena Church, 4555 N. Haven, Toledo, OH 43612, Showing starting at 9 am, Mass at 10 am. with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery.
A local visitation and service was held for Marty on March 31st at Apfel Funeral Home, Grand Island.
Marty was born and raised in Toledo, OH. He spent some time as a youth living with relatives at Braun’s farm near Monroeville Ohio. He graduated from Macomber Vocational HS in 1956. He received his associates degree from Owens Community College and taught Collision Repair at Penta County Vocational HS.
Following Auto racing, DYI projects, gardening, traveling and teaching were his passions.
Sandy loved socializing including Bunco group in Toledo with high school friends, Newcomers group in Grand Island and going to Platte Deutsche. She was a volunteer at St. Francis Physical Therapy department.
Marty and Sandy relocated to Grand Island in 1982. Marty was the VP of Training and Product Development for Chief Automotive and retired in 2000.
They were members of St. Leo's in Grand Island and St. Catherine's in Toledo, Ohio.
Survivors include his children: Mike Hettle, Chuck (Mary Pat) Hettle, Doug (Jacque) Hettle and Ann Hettle; sister Noreen Begell, brothers-in-law Dale Keller, Terry (Pat) Keller, Marc Keller, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Marty was preceded in death by his parents, sisters: Susan Matthews, Regina Hentges and Joan Olnhausen.
Sandy was preceded in death by her parents and brother Donald Keller.
