Martin T. Halicek, 88, of Elmore, Ohio, died Tuesday evening, February 10, 2015, at the Genoa Retirement Village. Martin was born January 29, 1927, in Genoa, Ohio, to Paul P. and Agnes A. (Valasek) Halicek. He enjoyed farming, which he had done his entire life. Over the years he operated a dairy farm and raised grain and tomatoes. Martin was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Genoa and the K of C 3rd Degree, #4237 of Genoa. He was also a member of the American Czech Slovak Dance Club. He had once been a band leader and accordion player for the Polka Tunes polka band. Surviving Martin are his brothers, John Halicek of Elmore and Joe Halicek of Northwood, nieces and nephews and longtime special friend, Nancy Flick and her family. His parents and brother, Paul P. Halicek, Jr., preceded him in death. Visitation will be 2-7 p.m., Thursday, February 12, 2015, at the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home Crematory, 501 West St., Genoa. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Friday, February 13, 2015, at Our Lady of Lourdes with burial to follow in Clay Township Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested memorials to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 204 Main St., Genoa, OH 43430; or Hospice of Northwest Ohio, 30000 E. River Rd., Perrysburg, OH 43551. The family would like to thank the staff at the Genoa Retirement Village and the doctors and nurses associated with his loving care throughout his illness.
