MARTHA “MARTY” (JAY) MENNEL Marty Mennel, 86, of Perrysburg, died Monday, May 2, 2011 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg. Born October 27, 1924 in Toledo, Ohio to Harold and Eleanor (Foster) Jay. Marty was an alumnus of Maumee Valley Country Day School and Wells College. On July 6, 1946, Marty was married in Burt Lake, MI to Walter M. Mennel, he preceded her in death on February 1, 1999. For many years, Marty worked as a secretary for the Junior League. Many presidents and members of the Junior League under her tenure have often expressed deep admiration for her service. She was a member of the Carranor Hunt and Polo Club, the Toledo Country Club and the Country Garden Club. Marty was admirably independent and defied adversities. She was instantly liked by many people, had a good sense of humor, very polite, and always had a smile. She enjoyed social activities, playing golf and bridge, and her creative artist abilities could be seen through her knitting and needlepoint skills. Marty is survived by her daughters, Mary L. Mennel of Perrysburg and Sally F. (James) Farrell of Washington, D.C.; grandsons, Peter Farrell and Stuart (Ginger) Farrell all of Washington, D.C.; and sister, Sally (Gilbert) Stewart of Boston, MA along with several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her son, Mark Jay Mennel on August 7, 1989. A Celebration Gathering will be held on Sunday, May 22 at 1:00pm at the Carranor Hunt and Polo Club, 502 E Second Street in Perrysburg. Burial will be private in Fort Meigs Cemetery.
