Martha Lahey

February 22, 1923 — June 13, 2013

Martha Jane Grove Lahey, age 90, of Perrysburg, Ohio died Thursday, June 13, 2013 in her son and daughter-in-laws, Matt and Cheryl Lahey home surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She had resided at her sons home for the past 5 years. Martha was born to the late Jesse and Clara Stark Grove, the 5th of 6 children, in Perrysburg on February, 22, 1923. She attended St. Rose grade school and graduated from Perrysburg High School. After graduating from Davis Business College, Martha became employed at Erie Proving Grounds in Port Clinton as a statistician. Later she worked at Peter Stamping in Perrysburg until shortly after she was married. In 1945 Martha married Edward T. Lahey and, with this union, they raised eight children. Mom was very involved in our young lives. A deeply religious Catholic, she and Dad led us through the experience of the Sacraments and taught us to share, get along and to be successful, generous adults. She was also a big presence in her grandchildrens lives, and they will always cherish memories of grandmas ways and her special, homespun phrases. She is survived by her loving children and their spouses: Fred Matticola, Colleen Tom Demsey, Maggie Dave Herring, Matt Cheryl Lahey, Marty Barbara Lahey, Shandon Norman Langenderfer, Molly Ben Murphy, Pat Jennie Lahey, 30 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Martha was preceded in death by her loving husband of 24 years, Edward, daughter, Roseanne Matticola, sons-in-law Kevin Hartman and John Collins, Brothers and their wifes Joe Marguerite Grove, Vincent, Paul Rosemary, Sisters, Helen Margaret, Frances Edmund Van Tassel and great-grandson, Wiley Daniels. Family and friends may visit at Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant St, Maumee, Ohio, on Monday, June 17, 2013 from 38 pm where the rosary will be recited at 7pm. Please join the family in celebrating her life on Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at 10:30 am at St. Rose de Lima Church in Perrysburg, Ohio. Interment will follow at St. Rose Cemetery. Immediately following the graveside service, family and friends are invited to the Wake at son and daughter-in-laws Marty and Barbara Lahey restaurant, Manhattans, 1516 Adams St, Toledo. Please consider making a donation to Make-A-Wish-Foundation Fund in honor of Marthas great-grandson, Bryce, or to the St. Rose School scholarship fund.
