Martha D. Hakanson, age 84, passed away Friday, October 23, 2009 at St. Lukes Hospital. The daughter of Dewey and Elma Winn, she was born June 23, 1925 in Shelby, OH. She was a graduate of Waite High School and worked for Toledo Scale in the Engineering Dept. as an Executive Secretary for 17 years. For more than 15 years she shared her enthusiasm, energy, and skills as an ombudsman with WTOL Channel 11 Call for Action Program. Martha was an active leader in numerous organizations for more than 60 years including, Eastern Star, the Waite High School Womens Alumni Group, Toledo Police Ambassador Program, and the COMPASS Club. For more than 15 years she has been a volunteer for St. Lukes Hospital. She dedicated herself as an advocate for older adults in Northwest Ohio and served on the Area Office on Aging Advisory Board representing the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program RSVP and senior volunteers. Martha was a genuine and compassionate person always reaching out and helping others. Her warmth, positive, and outgoing personality will be greatly missed by all those whos lives she touched. She is survived by her son, Roy Paula; daughter, Deborah Lorigan; four grandchildren; three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; and sister, Donna Nusbaum. There will be no visitation. A graveside service will be held Thursday, October 29, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at Toledo Memorial Park.
