Marlene Miller

October 5, 1933 — October 15, 2014

Marlene “Molly” Miller passed away October 15, 2014 after a brief illness. She was born in Toledo on October 5, 1933 to Verna (Johnson) Wagar and Edmond Wagar. She attended McKinley Grade School and graduated from DeVilbiss High School in 1951. It was at DeVilbiss that she met Jack Miller, whom she married on New Year’s Eve in 1952. She and her high school sweetheart shared 61 years together, until his death earlier this year. Marlene was a very independent and strong woman, as demonstrated by the way she faced adversity head-on. Disabled by a stroke in 2001, Marlene never let that define her. She lived life to its fullest, always putting others first, including Jack, whom she strongly supported during his fight with cancer. They made a good team. When approached about assisted living, they insisted they already had that arrangement: he assisted her, and she assisted him. Molly was a part of the Toledo Clinic for many years before retiring in 1993. She and Jack loved to travel, and enjoyed flying in their Cessna airplane. Marlene loved getting together with the Fab Five, a group of friends that had known each other for over 50 years. Marlene was a devoted mother and grandmother, and she was the best mother-in-law anyone could ask for. Marlene was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jack, sister Zella Graff, and brothers Jack and Dale Wagar. She is survived by children Leann (Warren) DeWitt, Susan (Peter) Gerhardinger, and Tom (Rebecca) Miller; and grandchildren Eric, Sarah (Dr. Nathan Jud), Andy, Rob, Allison (Steven Porter), Laura, and Sean. Visitation will take place on Friday, October 17, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania, (west of Corey Rd.). A service will be held Saturday, October 18, at 2 pm in the funeral home followed by graveside services at Toledo Memorial Park, where Marlene and Jack will be interred together. Memorial gifts may be made to Ebeid Hospice Residence, 5340 Harroun Rd. Sylvania OH 43560, or to The Ability Center of Greater Toledo, 5605 Monroe St. Sylvania OH 43560. Online condolences may be shared at walkerfuneralhomes.com.
