Marlene Elizabeth Kott, age 64, of Toledo, Ohio, lost her courageous battle with cancer Tuesday evening, March 18, 2008 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. She was born June 28, 1943 to Phillip and Rita Wasserman Boes in Northwood, Ohio. After graduating from Lake High School in 1961 she became a licensed cosmetologist. Marlene had a love for baking which evolved into the creation of various specialty and wedding cakes. Her seasoned talent eventually led to her employment as cake decorator at the Kroger company the last 12 years. At Christmas time, she looked forward to creating a variety of handmade chocolate candies and giving them as gifts to family and friends. It was an annual treat everyone looked forward to with her famous pecan turtles being the real crowd pleaser. Some of her hobbies included collecting polar bears, butterflies and making fleece blankets, donating many to charity. Marlene was preceded in death by her father, Phillip Boes. She is survived by her loving mother, Rita Boes; sons, Mark Leslie, Gregory and Michael; daughter, Rena Greg Sopher; husband, Stephen Skip Kott; stepchildren, Jennifer Dave Friddell, Angie Joe Box, and Jeff; sister, Corky Dave Becker; brothers, Dave Terri Boes of Cincinnati, Ohio and Bill Helen Boes of Findlay, Ohio; and grandchildren, Jessica, Todd, Greg, Christina, Stacie, Andrew, Megan, Cameron, Travis and Tyler. Marlene will always be remembered as a warmhearted, caring person. Her compassionate nature always made her available to help others whatever the need. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 24th from 5 to 9 P.M. at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave. west of Corey Rd.. Family and friends are invited to meet at St. Ignatius Catholic Church, 212 N. Stadium Rd., Oregon, OH, on Tuesday, March 25th where the funeral mass will begin at 10 A.M. Father Mark Herzog will officiate. Interment will follow at St. Ignatius Cemetery. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Hospice of Northwest Ohio or a charity of the donors choice. The family would like to express their appreciation to the many doctors, nurses and support staff at the University of Toledo Medical Center and the Ruppert Center for the excellent care given to their mother.
