Markus Democrates Dunham

Markus Democrates Dunham, 57, of Catawba Island, OH, passed away Saturday, January 26, 2013 at his home on Catawba after an extended illness.. Mark was born on August 26, 1955 in Fort Knox, KY, the son of Richard M. and Nancy Yates Dunham. After graduation from Port Clinton High School in 1973, he attended Oberlin College and Miami University where he earned a Bachelors Degree in History. He then earned a Masters Degree in Mathematics Education from the University of Toledo and continued to take further graduate courses in math. On August 26, 1982 in Port Clinton, OH, he married Susan F. Ralph and she survives. Mark was a mathematics teacher for 2 years for Put-in-Bay School and then was hired by Toledo Public Schools, where he continued his tenure for 28 years. He was assigned to Rogers High School, Waite High School and Toledo Early College High School. He retired from a 30 year career as a high school math teacher in June 2012. Mark was listed in the Whos Who Among Americas Teachers, multiple times. He was a life-long tennis player and coached both boys and girls high school tennis for many years. Mark loved traveling, snow skiing and boating on Lake Erie. He especially loved spending time with his family. Mark will be greatly missed by his loving family and friends. Survivors include: Loving Wife of 30 years: Susan Dunham of Port Clinton; Son: Michael Dunham of Port Clinton; Father: Richard M. Dunham of Port Clinton; Mother: Nancy Dunham of Port Clinton; Sister: Suzannah A. Wittenmyer of Bowling Green; Brother: Theo Dunham of Port Clinton. Memorial services will be conducted at 11:00AM, Saturday, February 9, 2013 in the Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home Crematory, Port Clinton, OH, with visitation one hour prior to the services from 10-11AM . In lieu of flowers memorial donations in memory of Mark may be given to Stein Hospice.
