Mark C. Schaffer, age 69, loving father, husband, philanthropist and attorney, died on February 16, 2011 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. Mark attended the Ohio State University for both undergraduate and law school class of 1969, and served as an officer in the U.S. Navy from 1964-1966. He practiced intellectual property law for 40 years as senior partner with the law firm of Emch, Schaffer, Schaub Porcello. Notably, he successfully obtained the first registration for a color ever granted by the United States Trademark Office. Miniger Memorial Foundation, and The Medical College of Ohio Foundation Board. Marks passions in life were his wife Rubena DerManelian; his children Carl, age 28 and Cole, age 26; and his standard poodles, Louie and Harry. He was a world traveler, a talented cook, and always seemed most comfortable in his kitchen. He had a love for the arts, photography and music in particular, and was passionately interested in the issues of the world to the very end. In addition to his wife and children, he will be sorely missed by his sister, Anne Bartley, his brother, John Rose Mary, and his countless other family members and friends. He is predeceased by his father, Carl F. Schaffer, and his mother, Frances C. Schaffer. Friends are encouraged to visit the family on February 26, 2011 from 12:00-4:00 5:00-9:00 at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave., west of Corey Rd.. A memorial service will be held at The Toledo Zoo on March 12, 2011 at 11:30. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Hospice of N.W. Ohio and The Toledo Zoo.
