Mark Jacobs, age 64, was born to Chester and Harriet (Osinski) Jacobs on September 10, 1957, in Toledo, Ohio. He died on Tuesday, June 7, 2022. Mark attended Regina Coeli Elementary School and Start High School where he played tennis and was on the wrestling team. Mark got a very early start with his knowledge of engineering. At the age of 14 he was working alongside his father at Brush Wellman Inc. and area refineries. After high school he attended the University of Toledo where he earned his degree in Electrical Engineering. After graduation, he earned his Professional Engineering Certificate (PE). Among his early career positions, Mark worked as an engineer for General Motors Corporation in Dayton, Ohio. When he decided to relocate to Toledo, he worked for Jones and Henry Ltd. In 1994, Mark established Dmytryka Jacobs Engineering Company with David Dmytryka, specializing in the design, development, and implementation of instrumentation, control, and electrical systems for water treatment plants.
On April 16, 1993, Mark and Shelli met through friends and from that day forward they were inseparable. They married on March 22, 1997. Shelli’s two daughters, Erica and Monica instantly became Mark's children. Mark and Shelli recently celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary. Among Mark's loves were family, rock climbing, ice climbing, wind surfing, sailing, mountain biking, fishing, and target shooting. He enjoyed every opportunity to share time with his family. Family vacations included Niagara Falls, both the Canadian and American sides, Mammoth Cave, The Great Smokey Mountains, Florida, the New England States, the Western United States, and the Bahamas. These vacations provided priceless memories for the family. Kayaking and mountain biking as well as hiking were prime activities. He supported his daughters Monica and Samantha, in their ballet endeavors by attending every performance and competition, as well as providing opportunities for them to study with premier instructors at premier schools of ballet in New York and Chicago. Offers to attend school and intensives in Italy and Russia ensued. He enthusiastically watched Samantha's Notre Dame diving team competitions. His Father of the Bride speeches are legendary, showing care, love, understanding and support for his daughters. He and his son, Joshua, belonged to Merickel-Farley Trout Club and Rockwell Springs Trout Club where they spent many hours sharing time as they angled for fish. He also made time to enjoy Josh's traveling baseball teams (and there were many), time on the field with St. Francis baseball and supporting the Adrian College baseball team for whom Josh played. In addition, Mark enjoyed spending time at the range with Josh, his nephew Jeff Jacobs, and good friends. As a rock climber, Mark conquered Yosemite's El Capitan, Red Rock Canyon, Joshua Tree, and Devil's Tower among other challenging sites in the United States. Sites in Acadia National Park afforded ice climbing opportunities which permitted him to climb year-round. Mark also led many climbing expeditions. He loved sharing his love of the sport with new climbers as well as seasoned enthusiasts. He was also an award-winning wind surfer as well as a sailor. At one point he was commodore of his sailing club.
