Mark Stewart Derkin, of Monclova, OH, passed peacefully into the presence of his Saviour on Saturday, July 19, surrounded by family, and after a five-year battle with cancer. He was 66 years old. Born in Detroit, Michigan on June 14, 1948, his father Hall S. Derkin and mother Aurel J. Pole relocated to Toledo in 1955. Mark was President of Derkin and Wise Inc., a well-known local industrial distributorship founded by his father, Hall S. Derkin. The Derkins settled in South Toledo, and Mark graduated from Bowsher HIgh School in 1966, where he played in local bands with brother Scott, and attended both the University of Toledo and Ohio State University. After years in Columbus, OH and Yakima, WA, Mark and family relocated to the Toledo area, settling in Monclova where they lived for more than 30 years. In addition to his business and community work, Mark was a well-respected and much-beloved figure in the local recovery community for nearly 30 years. Mark had a lifelong passion for both music and the written word, spending time writing stories and poetry and playing his guitar and singing with friends. He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle, which he rode on an extended solo cross-country trip in 2008 to his son’s wedding in California, up the West Coast and back to Toledo over the span of three weeks. Mark is survived and sorely missed by his wife of 39 years, Shelley (Stevens), and their four children: daughter Sarah Lillian (Perez), her husband Rob and children Jackson, William and Natalie; son Blue Christopher and wife Tess; daughter Emily Star; and daughter Anna Jane (Wisniewski), husband Eric and son Harrison; brothers H. Scott Derkin (Carol) and James Ambrose Derkin (Mari-Jo); nieces Lisa and Elizabeth (Scott and Carol’s daughters), and nephews Joel, Benjamin, Samuel and Joseph (Jim and Mari-Jo’s sons). A gather of family and friends will be held on Friday July 25, 2014 from 5:00-6:00 p.m. at Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home 501 Conant Street, Maumee, Ohio. where there will be a memorial service following at 6:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
