Marjorie H. Rakes

Marjorie H. Rakes, 84, of Port Clinton, OH, passed away Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at her sons residence. She was born in Port Clinton, OH on March 01, 1923, the daughter of Hans and Goldie Felder Christiansen. Her first husband, William L. Matthews Sr. preceded her in death. In 1969 she married Virgil Torch Rakes, who also preceded her in death on January 31, 1987. Marjorie worked as a secretary for the Ottawa County Auditors office retiring in 1987. Prior to that she worked at U. S. Gypsum and the Erie Army Depot. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Oak Harbor, OH. Marjorie was a member of the Grandmothers Club, David W. Leonard Aerie #2295 Auxiliary, V.F.W. Homer D. Gardner Post #2480, Auxiliary, Women of the Moose Lodge #1610, American Legion Post #113 Auxiliary, Bay Township Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary and a member of the Sarah Circle, all of Port Clinton, OH. She was an avid card player. Marjorie loved to travel and go to shows. She will be greatly missed by her loving family and friends. Survivors include: Sons: Gary Georgiann Matthews of Port Clinton, OH and Randy Lynnette Matthews of Rocky Ridge, OH; 4 Step-Children; Sister: Joyce Foreman of Catawba Island; Grandsons: Brent Matthews and Tony Matthews; Step-Grandson: Cory Rowe and 7 Great-Grandchildren. Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents, step-mother: Dorothy Christiansen, son: William L. Matthews Jr. and first husband: William L. Matthews Sr. Visitation will be from 2-4 6-8PM, Friday, February 15, 2008 in the Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home, Port Clinton, OH, where there will be a combined Eagles Auxiliary and V.F.W. Auxiliary service at 7:00PM. Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Cheryl Wessel at 10:00AM, Saturday, February 16, 2008 in the funeral home. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery, Port Clinton, OH. Memorial contributions in Marjories memory can be given to Stein Hospice, St. Paul Lutheran Church or to a charity of the donors choice.
