Joann (Erwin) Hayes, 98 of Maumee, Ohio, passed away peacefully at Maumee Pointe Assisted Living on May 4, 2025. She was born in Middleport, Ohio and moved to Toledo, Ohio at a young age. She graduated from Waite High School in 1945 and then attended Stautzenberger Business College. During WWII she assembled airplane parts at Kneisley Electric and later worked at Libby Owens-Ford.
Joann married Roy Hayes in 1955 and had five children. She enjoyed being a member of the Flower Hospital Auxiliary and Toledo Women’s Club. She loved to travel in the U.S. and abroad, line dancing and especially dinner with her dear friends. She was a fabulous cook and baker which brings the fondest memories of family gatherings. She was a loving mother and grandmother who adored spending time with her family. One of her most treasured times is when her and Roy took the whole family on a cruise to the Caribbean in 2000, so many great memories were made by all on that trip.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, sisters Opal Price, Catherine Grater, Wanda Bassler, brother Eugene Erwin, husband Roy Hayes and daughter Julie Earnest. Surviving are her sisters, Marylou Furrer, Berneice Cardonick and children, Jill Kosch (David), Jack Hayes (Julie), Jenny Heier (Bob), Tina Miller (Stephen) and grandchildren Tiffany, Bryan, Lindsey, Kali, Branden, Kayla and Hannah. Great grandchildren Evelyn, Jude, Avery and Emerson, along with several grand puppies.
Visitation to be held at Maison-Dardenne-Walker in Maumee, Ohio on Friday, May 23, 2025 from 4-7pm. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 24, 2025 at 10am at the funeral home with entombment to follow at Highland Memory Gardens.
