Marjorie Cecilia Feeney

February 17, 1919 — January 11, 2013

Marjorie Cecilia Burtnett Feeney passed away peacefully on January 11, 2013 at the Kingston Residence of Sylvania. She was born on February 17, 1919 in Fort Wayne, IN to William and Georgianna Burtnett. She married Thomas M. Feeney on December 31, 1938. Marjorie was part of the Tri-State University Court Reporting Program in 1957, after which she worked as a court reporter in Monroe County Michigan from 1957-1961, in the city of Toledo from 1961-1966, and then at the Lucas County Common Pleas Court from 1966-1980. She thoroughly enjoyed being a court reporter and all of the people that she met at the courthouse. Marjorie graduated with a B.A. in Liberal Studies from the University of Toledo in 1987. One of her most treasured memories was a UT trip to Switzerland with her sister, Donna. Marjorie loved her job, but the most important facet of her life was her family and her beloved dog, Tigger. She loved cooking and enjoyed sharing recipes. Her favorite time of the year was Christmas, as she especially enjoyed buying gifts for her loved ones. We were very fortunate to have her for one last Christmas. Marjorie is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas M. Feeney; sister, Geraldine Astry; brother, Donald Burtnett. She is survived by her daughters, Jerilyn Bill Riordan of Erie, PA, and Susan Ted McHugh of Toledo; grandchildren, William T. Jennifer Riordan, Michael P. Riordan, Katherine McHugh, and Molly McHugh; sister, Donna Shaffer; special niece, Karen Shaffer and nephew, Rick Shaffer. Friends will be received at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. west of Corey Road on Monday from 3 to 7 pm, with a scripture service at 7 pm. Funeral services will begin Tuesday at 12 noon followed by the Mass of Resurrection at 12:30 pm at Christ the King Catholic Church, 4100 Harvest Lane. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Marjories name may be given to Senior Independence Hospice. Marjories family would like to extend a special thanks to the Kingston Residence of Sylvania for their loving care and for making her last Christmas special.
