Marion Lavon Morris, age 90, of Maumee, Ohio, passed away on February 15, 2015, in St. Luke’s Hospital surrounded by her family. She was born on June 24, 1924 in Metamora, Ohio to Albert J. and Alfreda C. (Hines) Keith. Marion was a 1942 graduate of Metamora High School and was married to Theodore W. Morris on April 12, 1947. Marion began working at Hurdlock’s in Adrian, Michigan upon graduation. During WWII she was one of the original “Rosie the Riveters,” when she moved to Santa Monica, California taking a job in a government airplane factory assembling Bombardier doors and installing radios in the cockpits of our bombers. After WWII she returned to Toledo and worked at Central Ohio Paper Co. and the Auto Light Factory. After their marriage, Marion became a homemaker, raising their daughter, Theodora. When Teddi entered high school Marion worked at the Bender Electronics in Maumee, and the Strong Electric Company in Toledo. Marion enjoyed reading historical biographies, embroidery, sewing and knitting. She made most of her daughter’s clothes from infancy to high school but her greatest enjoyment was going to all of the athletic events for the 1965 class of Maumee High School. “Mert,” became one of the many mothers who drove to away games, baked and generally supported the students and friends of her daughter in any way she could. Her love of music was displayed as she played the piano beautifully and was the organist for the Monclova Road Baptist Church where she was a member, for many years. Marion also loved volunteering at St. Luke’s Hospital for over 20 years where she made so many friends. The one season of the year she could not wait for was spring training of her beloved “Detroit Tigers.” She is survived by her daughter, Theodora Pertner, Grandson, Gary, (Jana) Olson, Grand-daughter Nicole (Nicholas) Vescio, Step grand-daughters, Katharine (John) Costantini, and Mary (William) Churchill. Great grandchildren, Zachary and Hailey Olson, Collin Vescio, Jack and Sam Costantini, Alice, Harrison, Nicholas, and Elizabeth Churchill, and Brother, Kenneth (Kathy) Keith. Marion was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Theodore W. in 2009, and her parents. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to neighbors, Greg and Tammy Nickey and Stan Micka. They constantly helped Marion with shopping and household chores which allowed her to live knowing she always had nearby support and a sincere appreciation to the doctors and nursing staff of St. Luke’s CC unit. Friends and family are invited to visit on Wednesday February 18, 2015 from 4-8 pm at the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant Street, Maumee. Funeral services will be private for the family with interment at Roth Cemetery, in Monclova. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Marion’s name sent to the Toledo Area Humane Society, Indian Wood Circle, Maumee or the Monclova Road Baptist Church
