Mario Arturo Contreras Monarrez

Sep 12, 1964 — Jul 7, 2026

Mario Arturo Contreras Monarrez was reunited with his beloved wife, María Hortensia, in Heaven on July 7, 2026. Their love was the foundation of his life, and after deeply missing her, he is now at peace once again by her side.

Mario was born on September 12, 1964, in Jiménez, Mexico, to José Paz Contreras Vega and Catalina Monarrez Contreras. From an early age, he possessed a remarkable curiosity and a brilliant mind that would lead him to a successful career as an automotive engineer. He worked for Dana, Chrysler, and Jeep, where his talent and dedication earned him opportunities to work on projects throughout the world. Dana first brought Mario to the United States, where he and his family settled in Virginia before making Toledo, Ohio, their home in 2000. Throughout his career, he traveled extensively to France, Italy, the United Kingdom, and Slovakia, experiences that broadened his perspective while allowing him to share his expertise on a global scale.

Engineering was more than Mario's profession-it was simply the way his mind worked. He had an incredible ability to understand how things worked and seemed capable of fixing just about anything. Whether tackling a household repair, troubleshooting a difficult problem, or lending a helping hand to family, friends, or neighbors, Mario was always willing to share his knowledge and talents.

Outside of work, Mario found peace in nature. He especially loved spending time at Wildwood Preserve and Oak Openings, where he could often be found cycling the trails and appreciating the beauty of the outdoors. Music was another passion, and he rarely passed up the opportunity to attend a concert. A devoted sports fan, he especially loved soccer and enjoyed following the game whenever he could.

Above all else, Mario treasured his family. He loved gathering with those he cared about most, creating memories filled with laughter, conversation, and love. His greatest love was his wife, María Hortensia. Their bond was unwavering, and after her passing, he carried her memory in his heart every day. Being reunited with her was undoubtedly the peace he longed for.

Mario was immensely proud of his Mexican heritage and embraced the traditions and values that shaped the man he became. He approached life with youthful enthusiasm, endless curiosity, and a genuine desire to keep learning. Intelligent, kind, thoughtful, and generous, he inspired others through both his accomplishments and his quiet acts of service.

Mario is survived by his daughter, Nora Contreras (Tyler Jorin).
