Marilynn Manning Baldwin

October 14, 1917 — June 13, 2018

Marilynn (Meme) Manning Baldwin of Sunset Village, Sylvania, Ohio passed away June 13, 2018 at nearly 101 years of age. She was born in Worcester, Massachusetts on October 14, 1917 the youngest of three children and the daughter of a dentist. Marilynn received a Bachelor’s Degree from Middlebury College (VT) in 1939 and then in 1941 earned a Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Pennsylvania. During the war she worked at the Red Cross Children’s Bureau in Wilmington, DE where she met her husband, Robert (Bob) Baldwin. They were married on February 26, 1944 in Worcester, MA and enjoyed 68 full and loving years together, until Bobs death in 2012. Marilynn enthusiastically embraced the people and activities in each place her family lived: Wilmington, DE; Ossining, NY; Chadds Ford, PA; Maumee, OH; Solon, OH; and Toledo/Sylvania, OH. Marilynn worked as a school social worker until 1982. She was active in Presbyterian Mission activities, L’Abri Fellowship, plus every cultural and artistic event she could schedule. She and Bob loved to be active and travelled often to visit friends in the United States and abroad: including the Middle East, East Africa, Europe, Australia, and many more. Marilynn hosted a foreign exchange student from Norway and entertained many visitors from all over the world. Most of all, Marilynn loved people. She was sincerely interested in everyone she met and loved engaging them in conversation about their lives. Of course, the people she loved most of all were her family, all four generations of them. Her family always knew that her love for people flowed out of her unwavering faith and trust in God which inspired all who knew her. Marilynn is survived by her children: John M. Baldwin (Barbara), Nancy Baldwin Hemminger, Robert H. Baldwin Jr. (Cathrine), and Emily Baldwin McPhie (Winston). Grandchildren: Glenn Hemminger (Jodi); Jill Hemminger Balderson (Beau); Matthew Baldwin (Naomi); Elizabeth Baldwin; Kyle Hemminger (Kara); Miriam McPhie; Cameron McPhie; and ten great-grandchildren. A Memorial service for family and friends will be held at a future date. Arrangements by Walker Funeral Home and condolences may be shared with the family at walkerfuneralhomes.com
