Marilyn Wolff

August 9, 1928 — March 22, 2026

Marilyn Elizabeth (Hellrung) Wolff passed away unexpectedly on March 22, 2026. She was born on August 9, 1928, in Alton, Illinois to Marvin Hellrung and Elizabeth Quinn Hellrung. Their family moved to Toledo when she was child, after the merger of the Illinois Glass Company and Owens Bottle Machine Co.

Marilyn attended Gesu school, graduated from St. Ursula Academy, and then attended the University of Toledo as a business major. In 1950 she married E. James Wolff, Jr., and they spent 62 loving years together, prior to Jim's passing in 2012. Together they enjoyed raising their 5 children Linda (Dave) Dorley, Laurie (Bob deceased) Rader, Jim (Ruth) Wolff, Tom (Aileen) and Bill (Amy) and were actively involved in their children's lives supporting their academic, sporting and all other endeavors. Marilyn also leaves behind 12 grandchildren David (Amy) Dorley, Peter (Meredith) Dorley, Elizabeth Dorley (Steve) Conrad; Andrew (Julie) Rader, Matthew (CJ) Rader, Steve (Brittany) Rader, Maureen Wolff (Willie) Stiles; Jacob Wolff, Leah Wolff, Patrick (Angela) Wolff, Michael Wolff and Ramona Wolff; along with 18 great grandchildren. All 42 family members, from across the US, were together for a fun weekend in Toledo to celebrate Marilyn's 95th birthday.

Marilyn and Jim loved to travel, their favorite trip being their annual migration to Hilton Head each year for 2 weeks which they started doing in the early 80s. Their family continues to honor this great family get-away.

With three children out of the nest, Marilyn decided to embark on a new career as a Realtor, which she continued to do quite successfully for the next 30 years, first with Danberry and then Loss Realty. With her lifetime Toledo connections, and her love of homes, she excelled from the start and was well respected, receiving numerous statewide awards.

As she was retiring from real estate, Marilyn began her third and maybe most passionate career, as a Volunteer at Heartbeat of Toledo. She loved having contact with the mothers and babies, giving words of encouragement and just helping wherever needed. Marilyn earned the respect of others and was later made volunteer Board President. In that role, she pitched a new concept - "Earn While You Learn" now known as Heart to Heart an innovative program including classes on parenting & life skills for Moms & Dads, which had a lasting impact on so many young people in the Toledo area. For her efforts at Heartbeat Marilyn received the annual Humanitas Award from St. Ursula as well as the Legacy Award from Heartbeat.

Marilyn was a lifelong practicing Catholic. Her connection to her faith did not waiver.

When Corpus Christi University Parish was established, Marilyn and Jim quickly became members, serving in several volunteer roles. Marilyn continued attending Sunday Mass, even when it became more difficult to make the long walk to "her seat" near the front.

Marilyn's last few years were exceptionally fulfilling. She loved everything about The Crescent Independent Living Community, including the wonderful staff and the friendly residents. She will be missed by everyone there especially her dear friend, Jerry Ryan.

In addition to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, Marilyn is survived by her sister Linda (John) Graham. She was predeceased by her two brothers Gerald Hellrung and David Hellrung.
