Marilyn Y. Tanguay

Marilyn Yvonne Tanguay, 87, died Friday, August 9, 2024, in Clinton Township, Michigan.


She was born October 5, 1936, in Coldwater, Michigan, the daughter of Jim and Jeanette (Wood) Butler. She graduated from St. Charles High School in Coldwater in 1954 and worked for several years at Federal-Mogul. She married Ron Tanguay on October 21, 1961, at St. Charles Catholic Church in Coldwater. He preceded her in death on October 23, 2000.


Most recently, she was an 18-month resident of Romeo, Michigan. Prior to moving to Romeo, she was a 57-year resident of Toledo.


Marilyn was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother and spent the past four months delighting in being a great-grandma. She loved hosting sleepovers and popcorn parties for her grandchildren and taking them on outings all over Toledo, including the Toledo Zoo and all of their favorite restaurants.


Marilyn also enjoyed spending time with her extended family and many friends. She loved playing Bunco and making desserts as well as decorating for and celebrating holidays. Always thoughtful, she rarely missed sending a birthday, get well or holiday card to family members and friends.


She is survived by daughter, Michelle DeRees (David); son, Matthew Tanguay (Leisa Thompson); four grandchildren, Ali Wolchek (Scott), Atticus Tanguay, Jake DeRees and Phoenix Tanguay; one great-grandson, Rowan Wolchek; and brother, Ron Butler (Pat). In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and much-loved cousin, Lilly Robinson.


Visitation will be held 4 to 7 p.m., Monday, August 12, at Walker Funeral Home (5155 W. Sylvania Ave). A funeral mass will be said 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, August 13, at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Burial will be in Toledo Memorial Park.


Donations in memory of Marilyn can be made to Shriners Children’s, St. Pius X Catholic Church in Toledo or the charity of the donor’s choice.
