Marilyn Gwyn

Marilyn Gwyn, 74, of Perrysburg, passed away Wednesday, November 1, 2017. Born June 21, 1943 to George and Catherine Knepp in Cleveland, Ohio, she moved with her parents to Perrysburg in 1956. Marilyn graduated from Perrysburg High School in 1961. She was a member of the National Honor Society, marching band, concert band, and was the Homecoming Queen in the fall of 1960. Her parents predeceased her and her sister, Cathy, survives. Marilyn enrolled in Hiram College in the fall of 1961 and graduated in 1965 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She then taught in the Oregon School System from 1965 to 1969. In 1968 she married Peter Gwyn and in the ensuing years she had four children: Daniel (Anna), Alan (Michele), Geoffrey (Samantha) and Emily. She is also blessed with seven grandchildren. An accomplished painter, musician, furniture refinisher, chair caner and needle pointer. She was a member of and past President of the Perrysburg Symphony Orchestra and, while the children were in school, she was active in the school’s parents club. While still able, Marilyn was an avid tennis player, hiker, gardener, and reader. Marilyn was a member of the First Church of Christ, Scientist, Maumee, Ohio. In 2002 Marilyn and Peter bought a lakefront lot near Sault St. Marie, Ontario. In 2008, after having a shell of a cottage constructed, the two of them finished the interior. Marilyn learned to and did install electrical wiring, ceramic tile, and put together kitchen cabinets. After Peter retired in 2008, they enjoyed travel to the Canadian property as well as what they called their "wander” which was a totally unplanned trip through the South deciding each night where they would go the following day. They enjoyed visiting National Parks, monuments, civil war battlefields, and other things that interested them. In accordance with Marilyn’s wishes there will be no public or Memorial Service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hiram College, Hiram, Ohio or to the Wood County Humane Society. Arrangements were entrusted to Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, Perrysburg (419-874-3133).
