Marilyn J. Goetz, 84, of Genoa, died Monday morning, March 23, 2015, at Otterbein-Portage Valley in Pemberville, Ohio. She was born June 29, 1930, in Monroe, Michigan, to Earl W. and Leola V. (Oswald) Discher. On February 6, 1954, in Rocky Ridge, Ohio, she married Virgil H. Goetz and he survives. Marilyn attended Monroe-Lenawee County Normal School and Ypsilanti Normal (now Eastern Michigan University). She taught in a one-room school house in Monroe County, Michigan, until her marriage to Virgil. She was also a homemaker and cooked for several area restaurants in the 1970s. Marilyn was a member of St. Johns United Church of Christ in Genoa, where she had been active in the Womens Fellowship. Her other memberships included the Genoa Area Senior Citizens and Local #18 Retirees. Together Marilyn and Virgil travelled coast to coast camping at many resorts. In addition to her husband, Marilyn is survived by her daughters, Mary (Michael) Thompson of Perrysburg, Diane Markham of Perrysburg and son, Robert V. Goetz of Sun City, Florida, five grandchildren, and step brother, Richard Peck of California. She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Jeffrey E. Goetz, son-in-law, Thomas Markham, sister, Carol Arting, and step mother, Frances Mary Discher. Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, March 25, 2015, at the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, 501 West St., Genoa. The funeral service will be conducted 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 26, 2015, at St. Johns United Church of Christ Chapel, 1213 Washington St., Genoa, with burial to follow in Clay Township Cemetery.
