Marilyn L. Gabriel

April 11, 1929 — July 20, 2014

Marilyn Lou Gabriel, age 85, passed away on Sunday, July 20, 2014 at Sunset Village in Sylvania.  Marilyn was born April 11, 1929 in Toledo to Raymond and Florine Mead.  After graduating from DeVilbiss High School, she received her Bachelors, Masters and a Specialist degree in Education from the University of Toledo.  She was a devoted teacher for the Toledo Public School system for 37 years.  Marilyn enjoyed knitting, reading, and walking.  She loved to travel and had been to the Hawaiian Islands, Europe, and the Caribbean. Marilyn is survived by her daughter, Kathy (Steve Babcock) Carlson; grandchildren, David Gabriel, Alex Gabriel, Kristin Carlson, Gregory (Erica) Carlson, Kristina (Corey) Lewis-Lechlak, Scott Babcock, Kyle Babcock, Kevin Carlson, Matthew Babcock, and Anna Babcock; half-brother, Robert Mead; and special companion, Freckles.  She was preceded in death by her son, Lt. Col. Grant Gabriel, and half sister Nancy Bombrys. Visitation will be Sunday, July 27, 2014 from 2-7:00 p.m. at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey Rd.).  Funeral services will be at All Saints Lutheran Church, 5445 Heatherdowns Blvd. Toledo, OH 43614 on  Monday at 1:00 p.m.  Memorial contributions may be made to All Saints Lutheran Church or to the charity of the donors choice.  Online condolences may be shared at walkerfuneralhomes.com.
