Marie L. Pesa

July 6, 1921 — October 3, 2009

Marie L. Pesa, of Sylvania, born July 6, 1921, left this world to join our Father on October 3, 2009. Marie was born and raised in Youngstown, Ohio and lived there until 1999 when she and her husband, Joseph Pesa, moved to Sylvania to be closer to their daughter, Pam Haynam; her husband, Doug and their grandchildren, Benjamin J., Kimberly Rose, and Sarah Kathryn, all of whom affectionately called her Ninny. Marie was the fifth of ten children born to Italian immigrants, Rose and Christopher Rand, and is survived by a sister, Vera Campana of Boardman, OH and a brother, Danny of Youngstown. Marie, and the love of her life, Joe Pesa, were married almost 67 years ago, on October 28, 1942, in Hattiesburg, MS, while Joe was on leave from the US Army. After a brief honeymoon in New Orleans, Joe reported for duty in Fairbanks, Alaska, where he served until 1945. Marie returned home where she supported her countrys war efforts by joining the ranks of Rosie the Riveter in Youngstowns steel mills. After World War II, Marie graduated from Cosmetology School then found employment at Strouss Department store selling stationary, and was honored as the stores top sales representative, retiring in 1955 to raise their only child, Pamela Jo. In 1963, Marie returned to the work force again at Strouss where selling lingerie she continued to receive top sales honors. In July 1990, Marie survived the rupture of a brain aneurism. After months in the hospital and rehab, Marie returned home, where Joe taught her to speak, read, and care for herself and their home again. Together they worked diligently on her rehabilitation often using cooking and gardening as therapy. Marie and Joe moved to a new home in Sylvania in 1999 and to Kingston Residence in 2007 where they resided together in the memory unit until recently. Burial service will be private. Visitation will be Monday, October 5, 2009, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., followed by a Memorial Service at 1 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. west of Corey Rd. Maries family would like to thank the caring professionals of Kingston Residence of Sylvania, Flower Hospital, and Hospice of Northwest Ohio for their loving care.
