Marie Nakos, 80, Toledo, OH died Sunday, June 5, 2011 at Flower Hospital Lake Park Rehabilitation Center of Lung Cancer. Born January 30, 1931 in Appalachia, VA. Marie is survived by her loving son, Zaharias Zack N. Nakos, daughter-in-law April, devoted sister Mary & Sam Stidham, brother Frankie & Jackie Bowman, sister JoAnn Boganski Bow deceased, Gary & Carol Bowman, sisters-in-law Almirea Jo Reese, Matina & Nonda deceased Nicholas, Irene & Newell deceased Kaufman, and many cherished nieces/nephews. Marie is preceded in death by her beloved husband Harry N. Nakos, Father & Mother Walter Reese & Charmia Bowman, step father Basil Bowman, dear brother Milton Reese, sister Elizabeth Bootsie Bowman, brother Donald Bowman & sister Christine Rossi Joe deceased. After graduation from Appalachia High School in 1949, where she was home coming queen, she followed her brother Milton Reese to Toledo, OH where she found employment at Trick Bros. Music studio. Later, she married Harry N. Nakos in 1956. She furthered her career by becoming a legal secretary, first for Garfinkel & Kohler, and then Spangler Nathanson, working for many years for the Honorable David A Katz. She is a past member of the Ohio Association of Legal Secretaries. Marie assumed additional responsibilities when she transitioned to the City of Toledo, working many years, first in the Department of Human Resources and then in the Mayors Office. She retired in 1998 and enjoyed many happy and healthy years engaged in gardening, travelling, taking care of the house she lived in for 49 years, and visiting with friends & relatives throughout OH, MI, VA & FL. She will be remembered for her devotion to family, generosity, a self-published book of poetry, decoupage skill, antique collecting, her quick wit & humor. Family members wish to thank the many kind & professional staff members of the Flower Hospital Hickman & Lake Park facilities. Visitation will be 4-8 pm on Thursday at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave. Toledo, OH. Services will be Friday at 11 am at Walker Funeral Home, with graveside interment at Toledo Memorial Park, Sylvania, Ohio. Those wishing to honor Marie may make a contribution to the Chappuis Society Scholarship Fund of St. Francis De Sales High School - 2323 W Bancroft St. Toledo, OH 43607.
