It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Marie Frances Henderson, who departed this world on May 15, 2026, at the age of 85. Born on October 21, 1940, in Northwood, Ohio, Marie was the cherished daughter of the late Joseph and Anna (Pavuk) Sobecki. Her life's journey was a testament to resilience, love, and unwavering dedication to her family and community.
Marie was raised in a tight-knit family alongside her siblings, Valeria Sobecki, Joanne (David) Pheils, James (Mary) Sobecki, and Annette (Leonard) Kocurek. She was proceeded in death by her beloved parents and her sister, Annette Kocurek, whose memories she carried close to her heart throughout her life.
Marie was a proud graduate of Central Catholic High School in 1958, where her passion for learning was ignited. She went on to earn a Bachelor's Degree in Biology and Chemistry at Mary Mance College on Collingwood Avenue, in Toledo, Ohio. She started her career working for the National Institutes for Health in Cincinnati, Ohio. After many years with the NIH she started a new adventure. Her experience with the NIH helped to pave the way for a fulfilling career as an Industrial Hygienist, for the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. Her dedication to ensuring the safety and well-being of workers in countless factories was not just a job for Marie; it was a calling she embraced wholeheartedly for over 30 years.
Faith played a central role in Marie's life. She was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church where she attended elementary school. After college, she joined St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church. Eventually, she found her spiritual home at All Saints Catholic Church in Rossford, Ohio. Her faith community was a source of strength and solace throughout the seasons of her life.
Marie was a woman of many passions. As an avid gardener, she found joy in the vibrant beauty of flowers and plants, often spending her weekends at local farmers' markets, relishing the simple pleasures of nature. She also enjoyed going to garage sales, estate sales, and church rummage sales. She had one child, a son, Joseph, who she largely raised on her own while working full-time. Joseph, and his wife Tiffanie, had two children, who were the highlight of her life. She adored spending time with her two precious grandchildren, Maximus and Lauryn, who affectionately called her "Magda." Her grandchildren were her world, and she was their fiercest advocate, never hesitating to stand up for what she believed was right. Standing at just 5 feet tall, Marie's stature was small, but her spirit was indomitable. She was a staunch advocate for causes close to her heart, especially those involving her beloved family. Her voice was always heard, and her presence was felt in the lives of those she touched.
As we honor Marie's life, we hold dear the words etched in our hearts: "Her memory is my keepsake, with which I'll never part, God has her in his keeping. I have her in my heart." While a private ceremony will be held to celebrate her life, the impact of her kindness, strength, and love will continue to resonate in the hearts of all who knew her. Marie Frances Henderson leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and unwavering faith. As we say goodbye to this remarkable woman, we are reminded of the profound ways she enriched our lives. Though she is no longer with us, her spirit lives on in the cherished memories we hold dear.
