Maria L. Riojas

Maria L. Riojas, age 94, of Port Clinton, Ohio passed away Sunday, November 27, 2022 at her residence. She was born on February 29, 1928, to Biviano Quiroga Sr. and Juanita Flores in Lockhart, Texas.

Maria married Jose Angel T. Riojas on July 27, 1944. She retired in 1984 after spending years working at Aim Packaging in Port Clinton. With a strong catholic faith, she was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, where she loved decorating the church for the holidays. Maria was a wonderful cook, who enjoyed cooking for Gypsum Day, weddings, funerals, and her special tamales on Christmas. She worked as a cook at Island House, Underwoods and Sailors. Maria was a caregiver for many years and she loved to embroider, play Dominos (Chicken Foot), work on puzzles and word searches, but most of all loved spending time with her family and friends. Maria was affectionately known as mom, mother and grandmother to not only by her family but those who were blessed to have known and talk to her.

Maria is survived by her children, Carmen (Kenny) Kurtz, Josie Riojas, Gloria (Raul) Armendariz, Irene (Steve) Solis, Norma (Chuck) White, Joe (Rene) Riojas and Donna (Paul) Hopfinger; 18 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; 10 great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jose, parents, daughters, Patty Riojas, Janie Snell and Sylvia Barnett, granddaughter, Andrea Dalrymple Solis and great grandson, Nicolas Field, sisters, Janie Vega, Maria Bernardite Sanchez, Catarina Gonzalez, Matilde Rodriguez and Olivia Cortinas, brothers, Pete, Mike, Eucivio, Raymundo and Biviano Quiroga.

Visitation will be held from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 on Thursday, December 1, 2022 at the Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home, 216 Washington Street, Port Clinton, Ohio with the Rosary being recited at 7:00 pm.  The funeral mass will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, December 2, 2022 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 414 Madison Street, Port Clinton, Ohio.
