Margie Lou Barrett celebrated her last birthday on Earth Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at Riverview Health Care Campus. Her room was full of nurses, aides, family, balloons and carrot cake. The next morning at age 82 years and 1 day Margie was welcomed into Heaven. She passed away with a Hospice nurse and family by her side. “In the Arms of an Angel” was softly playing, when the song ended her breathing was no more. Born to Joseph and Elizabeth (Kleinser) Bennett of Oak Harbor on March 22, 1935, Margie was one of three daughters. Her sister Eileen preceded her in death at a young age. On February 12, 1955 Margie married Lyle Barrett of Martin, Ohio. Before Lyle’s passing in 2005 from an extended illness, Margie learned to drive at age 68 ½. Margie was an Oak Harbor “area” resident all her life and will be remembered for her cooking and baking skills. She cooked anything that passed through her kitchen and for years provided baked goods at Clinton Lake Campground, her summer weekend home. She was famous for making not only Rodeo Spaghetti, but also the secret recipe dressing for the annual Hog Roast at Clinton Lake. She worked at Kozy Corners Restaurant, Oak Harbor for years making the daily specials and homemade pies. A family involved with 4-H and rodeos, Margie put her sewing skills to work making cowboy shirts for friends and family of all ages. She enjoyed counted cross stitch, her extensive porcelain angel collection, reading, visiting with friends and camping. Margie is survived by three children, six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren plus two more being born this year. Margie will be remembered as a faithful friend but most of all a great mom, grandma, and great-grandma. She never missed a family birthday and cards always contained a dollar bill for ice cream. Her body was donated to Toledo Medical College as a tribute in her continued desire to help others. Per Margie’s request there will be no services at this time. A memorial Pot Luck will be held this summer at Clinton Lake Campground near Tiffin. Robinson-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, Oak Harbor is assisting the family with arrangements.
