Margaret F. Tansey

TANSEY, MARGARET F. passed away Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at Sunset House.  Margaret was born on January 21, 1922 in Lincoln, Nebraska.  She was the daughter of John and Mildred Fowler and grew up in Lincoln.  She attended the University of Nebraska and graduated with a degree in Economics.  Throughout much of her life she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority in which she was active at the local and national levels. Following graduation from the University of Nebraska, she became a Claims Adjuster for Liberty Mutual Insurance Company.  In 1950 she married Dr. John Tansey (Jack), to whom she was married for 60 years.  During the course of their long marriage, Margaret played a critical role in helping Jack build his pediatric practice by counseling young mothers. She became affectionately known as “Nurse Margaret.” Margaret loved playing bridge, tennis and golf.  She was a long-time member of the Toledo Tennis Club and Inverness Country Club.  She also loved working as a volunteer knitting instructor at Tracy, Hefner and Jay Shuer Schools and as a Christopher at Toledo Hospital for many years. She is survived by her children, Joann Angarola of Chicago, Illinois (Michael, deceased), Barbara Nicholls of Windermere, Florida (Thomas, deceased) and Scott F. Tansey of Kansas City, Missouri and grandchildren Brian, Andrew, John, Ben and Alexis Nicholls and Jonathon and Steven Angarola.  A mass celebrating Margaret’s life will be held on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Pius X Church, 2950 Ilger Ave., Toledo, Ohio 43606 followed by interment at Joy Cemetery in Ottawa Hills.  In lieu of flowers, donations to the Toledo Area Humane Society, 1920 Indian Wood Circle, Maumee, OH 43537 are appreciated.   Walker Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements, 419.841.2422.  Online condolences may be shared at walkerfuneralhomes.com.
