Margaret Vera “Maggie” Schafer , a former resident of Point Place and Florida resident since the 1980’s, left to be with our Lord in heaven at the age of 98. She was born March 17, 1918 in Toledo to the late Charles and Erma (Corder) Smith. Maggie married Gerald O. Schafer in 1933 and had three children, Laura Vaness Williams (Morris), Linda Filby (John) and Gerald “Guy” Schafer (Doris). Margaret was blessed with 13 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and 40 great-great grandchildren. She is survived by 6 of her 15 siblings and was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald; daughter Laura Jean Vaness; and grand daughter, Diana Lynn. She belonged to the Ottawa River Yacht Club, Loyal Order of the Moose and was a proud member of U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary in Toledo. She loved to play cards, go fishing and practical jokes. She had a lifetime love of dancing, doing so well into her 80’s and she enjoyed music until the final hours of her life. Maggie was a wonderful mother, loving grandmother, counselor and friend. Those that were blessed to know her warm smile and contagious giggle will miss her dearly. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Monday in the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey Rd.) where funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 11, 2016. Additional visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday. Interment will follow at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
