Margaret Mills Daniels, affectionately known as Peg, passed away unexpectedly on February 27, 2025. Born on January 26, 1946, in Toledo, Ohio, to Glenn and Naomi Mills, Peg grew up on Toledo’s west side, attending DeVilbiss High School and later graduating from Start High School before attending Bowling Green State University to earn her degree in Education.
Following graduation from Bowling Green in 1968, Peg moved from Ohio to Texas, followed by moves to Virginia, Michigan, and Texas once again. Wherever she lived, Peg was always outgoing and enthusiastically embraced new neighbors, making countless friends in many different places along the way. But she always loved Toledo most of all, returning there for good in 1992.
Peg was a devoted elementary school teacher in the Toledo Public School system for over 25 years. She loved teaching students how to read and taught 1st grade at Fall Meyer and Hawkins Elementary Schools. Her passion for teaching and nurturing young minds left a lasting impact on countless students and colleagues.
She was a lifelong member of the First Unitarian Church of Toledo, attending Sunday school there as a child and services as an adult, being married at the church, and participating in church activities like the bell choir.
Peg was also an avid crocheter, creating beautiful afghans and cozy slippers for loved ones. A dedicated Ohio State University fan, she never missed a game and proudly supported her scarlet and gray.
Though she had a finely honed outward facade as a stern schoolteacher in later years, those who got to know Peg discovered a sweet, loving, and generous soul with a dry and irreverent sense of humor. Her warmth and kindness will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Peg is survived by her children, Greg (Keely) Daniels; daughter, Kim (Manish) Lamba; brother, Jerry (Marlene) Mills; grandchildren, Connor, Drew, Wesley, Cassidy, and Delaney; granddogs, Paddington and four other corgis; and nieces and nephews, Jenny (Doug Kohler) Mills, Eric (Paige) Daniels, Jason (Angie) Daniels, Julie McLaughlin, and Sean (Erin) Stesch. She was preceded in death by her parents, her nephew, Justin Mills, and Tigger the cat.
Family and friends may visit from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave. A service will follow visitation at 12:30 pm.
She will be laid to rest in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Peg’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Toledo Humane Society.
