Margaret Motter

April 5, 1945 — January 10, 2025

“Thou wilt hold me with your right hand. You will guide me with your council and afterward receive me to glory.”

Margaret Clay Motter entered the glorious presence of her Lord and Savior January 10, 2025. Mom was born in Phoenix, Arizona on April 5, 1945, to Burley and Alice Clay and was the eldest of 6 children.

Margaret married James Wilson Motter on September 6th, 1963 and to them were graciously given three children, Elizabeth, [predeceased] Kathryn and Robert, who were the joy of her life. When her two grandchildren, Justin and Molly, were born she could not have been a happier grandma. She was very proud of them both, doing as many things with them as her abilities allowed. She also greatly loved her son-in-law, Scott, and daughter-in-law, Jill.

Mom enjoyed traveling with her family, from the west coast to the eastern most parts, and from north to the furthest south. She also loved teaching children at church, singing in the choir, making floral arrangements, sewing, and interior design. She was passionately interested in genealogy and traced the family roots on both sides of the family diligently. She delighted in finding the photos, the stories, and all the various documentation to back up her work. Mom and dad even took a trip to Europe to visit churches and graveyards to further her research. Mom loved flowers and landscaping with dad and in their later years they enjoyed going on many daytrips together. Moms friends were very important to her and she was blessed with long term friends from care group at her church.

She was a long-time member of Westgate Chapel, serving in many capacities there including Sunday school teacher, junior church teacher, and singing in the choir. Mom took care of three of our grandparents until their death, she considered it a privilege and joy to serve them.

Margaret is survived by her beloved children, Kathryn Marie Motter Huguenin (Scott), and Robert Wilson Motter (Jill); grandchildren, Justin Michael, and Molly Elizabeth; siblings, David (Doris), Becky (Vern), Jonathan (Anita), Daniel (Carolyn) and Polly (Darwin); as well as Dad’s sibling and a variety of nieces and nephews. She loved her family dearly.

We are sorrowful but not without hope. We carry our memories of her with joy. She was a precious wife, mom, sister, and friend. We take great comfort that she is in heaven forever with our Lord and Savior and reunited with Dad, Elizabeth, and her other loved ones who went before her. Margaret will be laid to rest beside her loving husband in Ravine Cemetery in Sylvania.

Blessed be the name of the Lord from this time forward forevermore. Knowing that he will keep that which we have committed to Him against that day. Jesus doeth all things well.

"Blessed in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints."
