Margaret Lois Long passed away peacefully on February 21, 2023, with her loving family by her side. Margaret was born to her parents Lucius and Margaret (McColgin) Huntley on August 27, 1932 in Toledo, Ohio. She attended Libbey High School and after graduation worked for General Motors in data processing.
Better known as Lois, she had a strength about herself that you were aware of as soon as she walked in the room.
Lois as a child was quite active. She loved playing baseball, basketball, softball and loved to rollerskate, bowl and swim. She shared her love of skating and bowling and taught her children and grandchildren how to skate and bowl. Lois participated in several women’s league at Glass Bowl and Miracle Lanes and also Ma & Pa bowling leagues at Imperial Lanes for many years.
She was easy going but yet in charge. She met the love of her life, Gerald L. Long, and they were wed on October 24, 1964. They enjoyed 58 years together full of fun, laughter, and family. Family cruises and trips were things Lois enjoyed in her later years. She was also a strong Kansas City Chiefs fan and received a shirt and cap from the team while under hospice care. We know she was celebrating when her team won the Super Bowl.
She was an organized woman that ran her household in a hands-on approach. Her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren as well as Goldie, their pet, were her pride and joy. Lois could cook just about anything, but she was known for her homemade rolls and lemon cake. She also loved preparing and eating homemade chicken and dumplings. Her favorite restaurant was Red Lobster where she would always order a lobster tail and steak.
Lois loved the Lord, and her family takes comfort in knowing she is with him now. Her feisty spirit will live on through her family. Remembering her with love are her husband, Gerald Long, her children Theron (Laura) Murray, Angela (James) Steward and Cheryl Hamilton, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and childhood friend Beverly Morris.
