Margaret Ruth Damas

Margaret Ruth (Meek) Damas, age 81, passed away on Monday, February 2, 2015. Marge was born on January 15, 1934 to Harry and Ruth Meek. She was third of four sisters. She attended Hamilton Elementary School and Whitney Vocational School. She worked numerous jobs throughout her life; including Wonder Bakery, a buyer of children’s clothes at Tiedtke’s Grocery and Department Store, a book keeper at the Toledo Club, and as a cashier at Toys R Us.  She also worked for the Toledo Board of Education as a Bus Driver and Bus Aide from February of 1986 through June of 2011 when she finally retired.  She was a Girl Scout Leader for 15 years and a Cub Scout / Boy Scout Leader for 10 years.  She was an active member of the Eastern Stars, Dendara Court #10 of the Lady Shriners. Early in her life, she was a Sunday School Teacher at Wesley United Methodist Church.  She became a member of St. George Orthodox Cathedral where she was an active member of the Ladies Benevolent Society. She was an avid fan of The Ohio State University where she had season tickets for the home football games. Where she enjoyed going to the games with her husband and other family members. She enjoyed going the theatrical productions at the Stranahan Theater where she was season ticket holder. She loved having breakfast with her Bus Driver friends and luncheons with her Woodward friends.  She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 44 years, Lawrence J. Damas; her parents, Harry and Ruth Meek; and her sisters, Elizabeth Banghoff and Catherine Marquardt. She is survived by her daughter, Debra (Thomas) Radwanski; her sons, Lawrence (Andrea) Damas and Michael (Trina) Damas; her grandchildren, Victoria (Mark) Crowe, Daniel (Julia) Radwanski, Amanda Radwanski, Nathan, Mary and Lyla Damas, Ziya and Myka Damas. She was also expecting her first great granddaughter this month. She is also survived by her sister, Zuella Czerniak; many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and great-great nieces and nephew; and her best friend and little buddy, Brutus.  Friends may call at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey Rd.), on Friday February 6, 2015 from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm with Trisagion Prayers of Mercy for her soul at 7:30 pm. The funeral service will be held at St. George Orthodox Cathedral, 3754 Woodley Road on Saturday, February 7, 2015 at 10:00 am with interment at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park immediately following. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, the USO, St. George Cathedral or the charity of your choice in her memory.  The family would like to thank those that have helped with her care; specifically Ashley and Nicole, and the rest of the staff on the 2nd floor at St. Luke’s Hospital.
