Margaret Elizabeth Cook, age 95, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2016. Marge was born on June 22, 1921 to Harold and Lillian Pabst in Youngstown, Ohio. She graduated from South High where her classmates voted her “Most Witty.” She attended Wittenberg University where she majored in English and French with a minor in Public Speaking. She was an honor student, a member of the Wittenberg Choir, and Gamma Phi Beta Sorority. Marge also reigned as Alma Mater Queen, the highest honor for a co-ed at Wittenberg. She was one of two women chosen to give commencement orations. During college, she was awarded a scholarship to participate in a summer theater group that travelled to Massachusetts and entertained soldiers during WWII. At Wittenberg she met her future husband, Henry Dale Cook, MD. They enjoyed 60 years of dancing together, raising four children, traveling the world and entertaining friends and family. Marge led a very active life. She was a member of Hope Lutheran Church, Inverness and Toledo Clubs, and Toledo Hospital Women’s Auxiliary (THWA) and volunteered for 30 years with Meals on Wheels. Her artistic talents and great sense of humor were evident in everything she did, from painting, writing, cooking, music, to gardening and home decorating. Marge’s main passion was her family. She was a caring and supportive mother to her four children and twelve grandchildren who meant so much to her. Her two other passions were theater and tennis. For her, all of life was a stage! She performed with the Village Players, produced style shows for the benefit of the THWA, and was in numerous Inverness variety shows. She greatly enjoyed a group of friends, “The Tennis Girls” who met to celebrate life on and off the court. Her game was competitive, served with humor and humility. Marge is survived by her children, Greg (Donna), Paul (Beverly Crosson), Cathy, and Karen (Jeff) Tormoehlen; 12 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and her dear friend and sorority sister, Marty Bartholomew. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and brother, Robert Pabst. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held in the Reed Chapel at the Swan Creek Retirement Center at 5916 Cresthaven Lane, Toledo, Ohio 43614 on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at 11:00 am. Lunch will be served immediately after the service at Swan Creek. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your favorite charity. The family wishes to extend their special thanks to the staff of the Swan Creek Retirement Home and Senior Independence Hospice.
