Marty Bartholomew

Margaret “Marty” Oehmler Bartholomew, 102 years young, passed away on Tuesday, August 30, 2022. She was born on July 5, 1920, in Toledo, OH. In 1939 she graduated from DeVilbiss High School then graduated from Wittenberg University, where she was a member of Gamma Phi Delta Sorority. She received her Physical Therapy Degree from Walter Reed Hospital after entering the Army where she served in the Philippines and Japan during WWII. She rehabilitated pilots who were shot down in the Pacific. She left the Army as a 1st Lieutenant and worked for 50 years as a physical therapist at the St. Joseph Hospital in Omaha, then eventually returned to Toledo and retired from The Toledo Hospital. Marty was a lifelong member of the American Physical Therapy Association, Hope Lutheran Church, and the American Burn Association. Marty loved to play golf, tennis, and Bridge. She exercised daily at the JCC and made many friends there before moving to the Woodlands Apartments. She was an active woman; she even skied the Alps! More recent in life, Marty enjoyed shopping, going out to breakfast at The Original, and watching her favorite football teams – The Ohio State Buckeyes and Nebraska Cornhuskers. She spent her last years at the Woodlands where she was loved and cared for by residents and staff. She was generous, thoughtful – always sending cards, fun to be with, loved, and loved her Lord, Jesus.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clive and Millie Oehmler; brothers, Donald Oehmler and Oscar Oehmler; and lifelong friends, Dr. Henry and Marge Cook. She is survived by her nephew, Martin Oehmler and his family of Kansas; her best friend, Mary Wheatley of Iowa; and the Cook family children.

Friends will be received on Wednesday, September 7, 2022, beginning at 10 a.m. at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Avenue, Toledo, OH 43623, where a Funeral Service will begin at 12 Noon. The service will be streamed through the Walker obituary page for those unable to attend.  Burial will be private.
