Marcia Smotherman, a woman defined by her sweet nature, protective heart, and lifelong devotion to her family, passed away on May 19, 2026, at the age of 92.
Born in Toledo on March 21, 1934, Marcia was a proud 1952 graduate of Scott High School. Later that same year, on October 4, she married the love of her life, Robert Smotherman Sr. Together, they built a life centered on family until his passing in 1989.
Marcia's career included early work at the Rossford Ordnance Depot, followed by 24 dedicated years at JC Penney, where she worked until her retirement in 1999. Beyond her employment, her true life's work was caring for others. She was instinctively nurturing, especially when it came to children and babies, and she took care of many people throughout her life faithfully and entirely without complaint.
Her family was her greatest joy. The summers they spent together at Clark Lake in Michigan remain among their most cherished memories. Marcia also knew how to keep busy and enjoy life; she was an avid reader, loved playing games, spent many years bowling until the age of 80, and always looked forward to golfing with Gloria and Linda. She was also skilled with crocheting and knitting and made many gifts for friends and family over the years.
A woman of quiet, steadfast faith, Marcia loved God and found great daily comfort in her devotions. She was a faithful member of the Lambertville United Methodist Church and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Marcia will be remembered above all as a sweet, caring, and protective presence who anchored her family with a quiet, enduring strength.
Marcia was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Mildred (Zapf) Smith; husband, Robert Smotherman Sr; son, Alan Dean Smotherman; and sister, Gloria Rae Miller. She is survived by her children, Robert (Linda) Smotherman Jr, Gloria (Ross) Flick, and Michael (Donna Bucklew) Smotherman; grandchildren, Angie (Chad) Husted, Amy (Tim) Dawes, Michelle (Chris) Van Epps, Kristi (James) Edgar, and Robert (Jessica) Smotherman; 12 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren; and brother, Ron Smith, and sister-in-law, Jessie Karen.
