Marcelo Cortez

Marcelo Cortez, 84, of Port Clinton, OH , went home to be with the Lord on, Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at Riverview Healthcare Campus, Oak Harbor, surrounded by his loving family. Marcelo was born on May 21, 1932 in Taft, TX, the son of the late Melchor and Florencia Cortez. On January 23, 1961 in Elsa, TX, he married Victorina “Vickie” Rodriguez and she preceded him in death on November 22, 2007. Marcelo worked as a welder for the Local #85, Boilermaker’s Union for 35 years and was formerly with the U.S. Gypsum Co. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Port Clinton, OH and a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus #1750. Marcelo loved the outdoors, fishing, boating, gardening and travelling with his family. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and friends. Survivors include: Son: Cesar A. (Robin) Cortez of Greenville, SC; Daughters: Magdalena (Suelena) Cortez of San Antonio, TX and Adriana (Ben) Scott of Port Clinton and Grandchildren: Gabriel and Bianca Scott. Marcelo was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sister: Angelita (Librado) Cuevas and brother and sister-in-law: Juan and Paulita (Cantu) Cortez. Friends may call from 2-4 & 6-8PM, Friday, September 23, 2016 at Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, Port Clinton, OH. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10:00AM, Saturday, September 24, 2016 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Private burial will be at Christy Chapel Cemetery. Memorial donations in memory of Marcelo may be given to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church or School, 414 Madison St., Port Clinton, OH 43452 or Heartland Hospice.
