Manuela R. Vargas

Manuela R. “Mele” Vargas, age 89, of Toledo, Ohio died Monday, August 15, 2016 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Stafford, Texas to Pedro Rodriguez and Ester (Cavazos) Delgado and on January 19, 1947, in San Antonio, Texas, she married Frank C. Vargas who proceeded her in death on November 22, 1989. Manuela was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Manuela was a wonderful cook and for many years, along with her husband, worked at festivals selling her home cooked Mexican food. She loved flowers and spent numerous years working for Brodbeck Greenhouse. Manuela enjoyed dancing, especially to Mexican music, as well as traveling. Her greatest joy was family gatherings. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her loving sons, Frank C. Vargas Jr., Manuel Vargas, Andy (Laura) Vargas, and Greg (Claudia) Vargas; loving daughters, Esther Vargas, Patsy (Jerry) Bastien, Gloria (Alejandro) Martinez, Martha Gonzales, Lisa (David) Downard and Amy (Nick) O’Neal; 14 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren; 4 sisters and 1 brother. Manuela was preceded in death by her husband, Frank C. Vargas, her parents and many siblings. Friends will be received on Thursday, August 18, 2016 from 2:00-9:00 P.M. in Neville Funeral Home, Southwest Chapel, 7438 Airport Highway, Holland, Ohio 43528 (419-865-8879) where the Rosary will be recited at 7:00 P.M. Funeral services will begin on Friday, August 19, 2016 with Prayers at 9:15 A.M. then proceed to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church for Mass at 10:00 A.M. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Guardian Angel Home Healthcare and Heartland Hospice for their excellent care of Manuela. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to do so in Manuela’s name to the charity of the donor’s choice.
