M. John Uebelhart passed away on Thursday, October 11 at the Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital at The Ohio State University in Columbus, OH after a hard fought battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia AML. He was 69. John and his wife of 47 years, Karen Kaiser, were long-time residents of Toledo. In fact, they grew up just a few houses apart on Evergreen Rd. and enjoyed a lifetime of memories together. Most recently, their time was split between a permanent residence in Bonita Springs, FL and their Apple Valley Lake house in Howard, OH where he lived out his passion for boating through hours of tubing with his 13 grandchildren in tow as well as capping his summer evenings with a relaxing Booze Cruise. Born in 1943 to well-known WSPD radio and TV broadcaster, Jim Uebelhart and wife Verna Johns, he attended Whitmer High School 1961 and graduated from the University of Toledo in 1966 with a degree in History where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. His 30-year career with International Business Machines IBM began shortly after as an office products salesman in the Toledo office. After multiple years of recognition in the prestigious 100% Club, John was promoted to lead the Marketing Training school in Dallas, TX and later became Branch Manager for offices in both Tucson, AZ and Toledo. His leadership experiences at IBM also crossed over a critical technology era as the organization shifted its focus to personal computers. The family eventually returned to the Toledo area from Boca Raton, FL in 1985 when John assumed a National Sales Manager position based in the Detroit, MI office that he would retain until his retirement in 1996. His career as a husband, father and grandfather was even more distinguished. After marrying Karen in 1965, they enjoyed building and supporting a family of three beautiful daughters. The seven grandsons and 6 granddaughters to follow became the focal point of their retired lives together. Johns other interests included playing golf with his many friends at Sylvania Country Club, Vasari Country Club, Mt. Vernon Country Club and wherever a tee time would beckon. He kept his business skills sharp by serving on the Board of Directors at both Sylvania C.C. and Vasari C.C. and through frequent offers of advice to those in need. Most of all, he was inseparable with his childhood sweetheart. He is survived by daughters Kristy David Venner, Melissa Martin Kelly, and Heather Jamie Sullivan; grandchildren Brittany, Bethany, Bailey, Rebecca and Reid Venner; Keri, Kasey, Cameron and Kyle Kelly; and, Malcolm, Sean, Finn and Will Sullivan; Brothers and Sisters-in-law John and Patricia Kaiser Odom and Jack and Mary Grzecki Kaiser. The family will host friends and visitors at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave., on Monday, October 15 from 10 a.m. - noon. A funeral mass will take place immediately following 12:30 p.m. at Gesu Church, 2049 Parkside Blvd. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital. Condolences may be sent to the family at walkerfuneralhomes.com
