M. Pauline Laurie, age 94, of Maumee, Ohio passed away on Friday, February 17, 2017 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg, Ohio. She was born on October 17, 1922 in Fairfield, Illinois to John M. and Lena M. (Compton) Carter. Pauline was the youngest of four siblings and after the death of her mother in 1925 the family moved to Northwest Ohio during The Great Depression where Pauline along with her siblings grew up and were cared for at the Maumee Children’s Home. During her time growing up at the Home, Pauline would say she never ate oatmeal for breakfast because she claimed the young boys helping to prepare the meal spat in the pot during cooking. Pauline graduated from Scott High School and later earned an Associate’s Degree from the University of Toledo. Pauline and her husband Jerry were married in April 1948 and moved to the little crossroad community of Ai in Fulton County to start a family leaving in December 1965 and moving to Maumee. Pauline held a few different jobs but best enjoyed both working as a librarian for the Law Office of Eastman and Smith and volunteering as a Guide for the Wolcott House Museum in Maumee. Pauline loved to read and always mentioned that reading was her passion finding pleasure with book discussions at the Maumee branch of the Lucas County Library. After her husband’s passing in May of 1995 Pauline’s travels included trips to Israel, England, Scotland and Wales. Pauline was preceded in death by her husband Jerry, brothers Ralph and Albert Carter and sister Lucile Pickel. Survivors include sons Bruce (Jamie) Laurie, Lee Laurie, Scott (Bonnie) Laurie and Brian (Eva) Laurie, 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 11-12 on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant Street, Maumee, Ohio. Funeral services will be held at 12pm in the funeral home. Interment will be in Fort Meigs Union Cemetery, Perrysburg, Ohio.
