M. David "Dave" Cremer

M. David "Dave" Cremer passed away, February 24, 2025 at Browning Masonic Community in Waterville Ohio. Dave was born May 8, 1933 in Bucyrus Ohio to Maurice and Catherine (Roelle) Cremer. He graduated from Bucyrus High School in 1951. His senior year he was voted the football team's Most Valuable Player. He worked for the Ohio Power Company until he was drafted into the Army. While in the Korean war he served as a Corporal in the Signal Corp, and as a Drill Instructor. After his discharge, he returned to Bucyrus and met his future wife Mary Lois (Rothhaar) on an arranged date. The couple married in June of 1956 and moved to Columbus, Ohio where Dave attended Ohio State University. He graduated in 1960 with a B.S. in Education and a letter of endorsement for coaching from Woody Hayes. Dave took a job as a Science and Social Studies teacher at Perrysburg High School where he taught for eight years. He then received his Education Specialist Degree and was the Guidance Counselor at the Junior High School, then Guidance Director for twenty-five years until he retired. He coached High School Football and Baseball. He coached with Jack Harbaugh and Jack Donaldson and coached Jim Leland who went on to become a Major League Baseball Hall of Fame Manager. He coached the High School Trapshooting Team and was the High School boys basketball scorekeeper for over thirty years. He volunteered at the "Bee Hive" on weekends and helped at numerous other school events. Throughout his career Dave helped countless students by providing guidance and teaching them the skills they needed to succeed.

The family took several summer camping vacations out west to the Rocky Mountains as well as the Great Smokey Mountains, the New England East Coast, Florida, Michigan's Upper Peninsula, and several summer trips to Ontario, Canada. Dave was active in numerous organizations including Camp Perry National Rifle and Pistol Matches (where he shot pistol), the OSU Alumni Club of Wood County where he served as President, and the Perrysburg Boat Club for over forty years to name a few. He was a freemason and member of Zoar Lutheran Church.

After he retired, Dave and Mary took many vacations including trips to the 1997 Rose Bowl, Hawaii, Alaska, the Bay of Fundy, and the 2002 Olympics with the whole family. Once a year they went to Amish Country with several other retired teachers and their wives. He also flew in a two-seat biplane at age eighty-nine through the Dream Flights organization, and went on an Honor Flight to Washington D.C.

M. David was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-six years Mary, his parents, brothers-in-law, Marvin and Robert Rothhaar, sister-in law, Patricia Rothhaar, and nephew, Stephen Rothhaar. He is survived by daughter, Laurie of Perrysburg and son, David of Westerville Ohio, sister-in-law, Marlene Rothhaar, and nephews Chris and Eric Rothhaar.

Services for David were private. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Witzler-Shank-Walker Funeral Home, Perrysburg. Donations may be made in his name to the Perrysburg Schools Foundation Scholarship (education degree Scholarship) or the Ohio State University Alumni Club of Wood County Scholarship Club.
