Lydia A. (Slovak) Poddany, age 94, of Oregon, Ohio passed away on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg. Lydia was born on October 5, 1924 to the late Paul and Antonia Slovak in Toledo, Ohio. She married Joseph Poddany on October 6, 1951, he preceded her in death in 2017. Lydia loved her family. She had her hand in many milestones of her son’s lives, she baked every one of their wedding cakes. Lydia enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She was involved in her community, volunteered at the Good Shepherd Foodbank, and was the head cook at Clay High School. Lydia was a valued member of the Auxiliary at Christ Dunberger for many years. Left to cherish Lydia’s memory are her children, Joseph (Susan) Poddany, Richard (Jennifer Mower) Poddany, and James Poddany; grandchildren, Heather Poddany, Brandon (Annie) Poddany, John (Jayme) Poddany and Kelsey (Adam) Hammitt; great-grandchildren, Kinsley, Adam, Isabella, Ramsey, Harper, Lydia, Tennison, Collins and Isaac; and brother Paul Slovak. Lydia was preceeded in death by her husband, Joseph Poddany; sisters, Ann Sesok, Helen Pavlik, and Susan Welch; and daughter-in-law, Deborah Poddany. Friends will be received at the Hoeflinger-Shank Funeral Home, 3500 Navarre Ave. Oregon, Ohio 43616 on Tuesday, February 12, 2019 from 2:00-8:00 P.M. with a Rosary Service at 6:00 P.M. Visitation will continue on Wednesday, February 13, 2019 at Epiphany of the Lord, St. Thomas Aquinas 729 White St. Toledo, Ohio 43605 from 9:00 A.M. until the time of Services at 10:00 A.M. Burial will follow at North Oregon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers Memorial Contributions can be made out to St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Christ Dunberger American Legion or the St. Louis Food Bank.
