Luella R. Goldstein, age 98, of Toledo and formerly of Maumee, Ohio passed away on Sunday January 22, 2017 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Toledo. She was born on September 23, 1918 in Toledo, Ohio to William and Alice (Meridew) Jackson. Luella worked as a long distance operator for the former Ohio Bell and was also a member of the Ohio Bell Pioneers. She loved to volunteer and was very active with the Ronald McDonald House for over 20 years, the Give Program at local schools, and the Sight Center. While at the Sight Center, Luella learned braille and used those skills to translate books into braille. She also was involved with their local tv/radio news channel where she would read the local news. Luella is survived by her loving daughters, Sharon (John) Drake, Sylvia (Lyle) Meeker and Martha; grandson, David (Mandy) Drake; great granddaughter, Maddy Drake and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Seymour, parents and her brother and sisters. A gathering for family and friends will be from 9-11:30 am on Thursday January 26, 2017 at the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant Street, Maumee, Ohio. The memorial service will follow at 11:30 am in the funeral home. Interment will be at a later date. Memorial contributions may be directed to The Ronald McDonald House or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
