Lucille M. (Klug) Smith, of Port Clinton, died on Sept. 25, 2017. She was born on September 25, 1921, the third of four daughters born to Nina (Leow) and John Klug. Lucille was married to Richard C. (Dick) Smith a month after he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942 where he served in the European theater throughout and after WW II. She is survived by one sister, Elva, in Oak Harbor, her three children, Caroline Sheaffer (Lloyd) of Carlisle, PA, Marty (Sherry) of Bellevue, OH, and Sally John (Greg) of Camp Hill, PA, grandchildren Laura Wills (Bill) of Enola, PA, Scott Sheaffer (Lena) of Port Matilda, PA, Trisha Bucher(Mike) of Bellevue, OH, Brandon McKenzie(Kristie) of Bellevue, OH, and Christian John of Davis, CA, and great-grandchildren, Noah Wills of Washington, D.C., Lacey and Mason Sheaffer of Port Matilda, PA, Justin Bucher, Carson and Alexa McKenzie of Bellevue, OH. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Dick, granddaughter Katelyn John of Camp Hill, PA, parents, and sisters, Irene and Gertrude. Lucille grew up on a farm outside Oak Harbor, Ohio. She graduated from high school there, took cosmetology courses in Toledo, and did secretarial work at Camp Perry, Ohio, prior to raising her family and moving to Texas and PA. When they were grown, she returned to the work force to do temp work in Mechanicsburg, PA, and then was a full-time secretary in the Port Clinton school system. Lucille was a lifetime member of a local Progressive Mothers’ Club. She had been a member of the Mary Martha church circle at St. John’s Lutheran Church for many years, a bridge club, and a local golf league. She enjoyed a wide range of hobbies including playing pinochle, reading, baking, and doing many kinds of crafts. A celebration of Lucille’s life is scheduled for Fri. Sept. 29th with visitation at 10 and a memorial service at 11 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Port Clinton. Interment will follow in Riverview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to St. John Lutheran Church, Port Clinton, Ohio. Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, Port Clinton, OH, has assisted the family with arrangements.
