Lucile G. Gordon, 96, of Oak Harbor, OH and formerly of Lehman Rd., Toledo, OH for 50 years, died Tuesday, February 8, 2011 at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was born on April 26, 1914 in Elmore, OH to Frank and Mabel Karshner Baker. Lucile was a 1936 graduate of Bowling Green State University. On June 29, 1943 in Elmore, OH she married Luther J. Gordon, and he preceded her in death on July 3, 1997. Lucile was a homemaker and retired elementary school teacher who taught 6th grade from 1937-1943, first at Elmore, OH and then at Wynn School in Oregon, OH. She was a very dedicated member of the Oak Harbor United Methodist Church, Oak Harbor, along with the United Methodist Women and Church of Women United. She was also a former member of Grawn United Methodist Church in Grawn, MI. Lucile was a member of the Kumdouble Club and the Country Culture Club. Previously, Lucile was a Girl Scout leader for 15 years, serving as district chairman, working on leadership training, and really enjoyed working with the young people. She also served as a Sunday school teacher at Wesley United Methodist Church and was a member of the Rock Mineral Club of Traverse City, MI. Lucile enjoyed crafts, including lapidary, plastic canvas, sewing, knitting, Russian punch pillows, and helping with church bizarres. Lucile also enjoyed camping all her life, traveling coast to coast, roller skating where she met her husband, gardening, archery, fishing, Polka dancing, lawn croquet, jumping on the trampoline, riding horses at age 84 at Pokagon. She was a poet, musician, performer and patriotic. Lucile was dedicated to her family, church, country, and above all else a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who will be greatly missed by all. Lucile is survived by 3 children and their families: son: Bob Jo Gordon of Rockledge, FL, grandchildren: Russ Gordon, Julie Steve Sigg, and Dan Gordon, great grandchildren: Anthony, Sydney, Eddie, Andrea, and Casey, and 2 great great grandchildren; daughter: Judy Jim Gschwind of Oak Harbor, grandchildren: Jenny Chad Magrum, Julie Kay John Pratt, and Joe Gretchen Gschwind, great grandchildren: Jaxson, Xavier, and Ceynor; daughter: Kay Tom Heinrichs of Toledo, OH, grandchildren: Chris Nicole Heinrichs and Breana Phil Koffler, and great grandchildren: Austin and Madeline. She is also survived by her sisters: Vera Lindhorst of Toledo, OH and Mary Ann Ken Royce of Toledo, OH. Lucile was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant brother: Harold, brother: Gerald Baker, and sisters: Corrine Wilka and Mildred Sprow. Visitation will be on Saturday evening, February 12, 2011 from 4-8 p.m. and Sunday, February 13, 2011 from 1-8 p.m. at the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home Crematory, Oak Harbor. Funeral services will be conducted 10:30 a.m. on Monday, February 14, 2011 at the Oak Harbor United Methodist Church with visitation one hour prior from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Elmore. Memorial contributions in memory of Lucile may be given to the Oak Harbor United Methodist Church or Stein Hospice, Sandusky.
