Lowell Rounds, 83 of Port Clinton, OH, passed away, Sunday, February 07, 2016 at Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky, OH. Lowell was born on October 21, 1932 in Port Clinton, OH, the son of Walter and Mary (Drusbacky) Rounds. On December 17, 1960 in Port Clinton, OH, he married Clara (Stambaugh) Larson and she preceded him in death. Lowell was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He was a retired Air Force veteran of 24 years. Lowell was in the fire protection field and rescue. He retired as a fire chief. Lowell served tours in Europe, Thailand, Indochina, Vietnam and Alaska, where he received the following awards: Korean National Defense Medal, Vietnam National Defense, and Vietnam Explanatory Ribbon. European Service Ribbon, three Air Force Accommodation Medals, Unit Citation while serving with the Helicopter Rescue in Vietnam and four Good Conduct Medals. Lowell was a member of the Port Clinton Elks Lodge #1718, where he was active with the National Service. In 2010 he received the award for National Service Volunteer of the year for State of Ohio Elks Association. He was a member of the American Legion Post #113, Air Force Non-commissioned Officers Association, and the Air Force Memorial Foundation. Lowell also was a member of the Elks Monday night bowling league, the Ottawa County Billiard’s League and the Fremont Billiard’s League. Those left to cherish his memory are: Brother: Richard E. Rounds; Sister: Marcia J. Wieber; Nieces Nephews: Thomas (Cheryl) Wieber, Robert Wieber, William “Joe” (Pam) Wieber, Kathleen Wieber, Richard E. (Kathy) Rounds Jr., Robert (Val) Rounds, Cynthia (Matt) Schroeder, Lisa (Don) Richuiti, David Hopkins, Diane (Kraig) Klopfenstein, Steven (Lenore) Frederick, Mark (Marci) Frederick and Michael (Laurie De Meyer) Frederick. Lowell was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sisters: Irene Hopkins, Anne Frederick and Doris Rounds, nephews: Brad Wieber and Paul Hopkins. Visitation will be from 2-4 6-8PM, Friday, February 12, 2016 at the Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home Crematory, Port Clinton, OH, followed by an Elk’s Memorial Service held at 7:30PM. Memorial donations in memory of Lowell may be given to Stein Hospice Care Center, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, OH 44870.
