Lowell I. Hinkle, age 78, of Perrysburg, Ohio passed away on Sunday, March 1, 2015 at St. Lukes Hospital surrounded by his loving family after a brief illness. Lowell will be remembered for the love he had for his wife and family. He was born on July 26, 1936 in Toledo, Ohio to Burton and Wanda (Rinehart) Hinkle. Lowell graduated high school from Anthony Wayne where he excelled in both baseball and basketball. He earned two J.V. letters and two varsity letters in basketball for the Generals where he was also Co-Captain and 5th leading scorer for the team in 1954. Lowell also earned three varsity letters in baseball. In 1954, he was one of the first two Generals to be selected All Ohio in baseball and was also named Anthony Wayne Most Valuable player with a 14-1 record as a pitcher. Lowell began working for Bostwick Braun in 1955 and became Vice President of transportation in 1988. Lowell would retire from Bostwick in December of 1997. Also during those years, Lowell taught courses at the University of Toledo in Motor Carrier and Air Transportation. Lowell was past president of the Toledo Transportation Club; past president of the Delta Nu Alpha Professional Transportation Fraternity; past president of the Toledo Maumee Valley Shippers Association; member of the National Industrial Traffic League; and a member of the National Management Association. He was also active on the Monclova Homecoming Committee, the Monclova Muskrats Vintage Baseball Team, the Society for American Baseball Research, the Maumee Little League, Perrysburg Baseball League and a 50 year member of Rubicon Masonic Lodge. Lowell is survived by his loving wife, Shirley, daughters, Lisa (Richard) Leggett, Lori (George) Brenner, Luan (Nicholas III) Scott; step-son, Steven Savage; grandchildren, Justin (Brooke), Jeremy (Silvia), Jordan (Chelsea), Jenae (Julius), Tyler, Haley, Evan, Tricia and great grandson, Avery. He was preceded in death by his parents and first wife, Madonna. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff in the ICU and CVU units at St. Lukes Hospital, especially his nurse Keli Fitzpatrick who was his guardian angel. Family and friends will be received on Wednesday March 4, 2015 from 3:00-8:00 p.m. at the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant Street, Maumee, Ohio 43537. Funeral services will be held on Thursday March 5, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Highland Memory Gardens, Waterville, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Lowell I. Hinkle Anthony Wayne Baseball Scholarship Memorial Fund at any Fifth Third Bank.
