Lorriane Selma Hopple

March 14, 1920 — March 11, 2015

Lorraine Selma (Klein) Hopple, widow of Dr. Theron L Hopple, passed away Wednesday, March 11th, three days shy of her 95th birthday. Born, March 14, 1920 in Chicago, IL, she never lost her affection for the windy city where she was raised. While attending the University of Chicago, she met the man who was to share her life for 66 years, Theron (Bud) Hopple. They were married in Bond Chapel on the University of Chicago campus on January 16, 1943 After Therons service in WWII, they settled in Toledo, Ohio. Lorraine became a member of the Womens Auxiliary of the Academy of Medicine and was a volunteer for Mobile Meals. She was kept busy raising four children, driving them around to their many activities. In fact that carpooling was when she picked up one of her many nicknames, Leadfoot Lorraine, dubbed so by the well known Coach Steve, as she was always the first to arrive at the swim meets, or golf tournaments. Lorraine also enjoyed her years of golf at Sylvania Country Club (the most incorrect golf swing that ever got the job done); many groups of ladies bridge (sharp as a tack, that one); bowling (again with the swing); and crossword puzzles (did the Sunday New York Times in ink). She was a voracious reader, an interest she shared with her husband. The best times, however, were the many family trips taken to our countrys National Parks and visiting extended family. In their senior years, Lorraine and Bud continued to travel the world, especially enjoying trips with their married children and grandchildren and with her beloved younger brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Rita Klein (Barrington, IL) Lorraine was the proud grandmother of 10 and great grandmother of 16. They will always treasure the many happy times with their Nana. Blessed with a quick wit, Nana could always get them laughing with her wonderful one-liners lovingly called Nana-isms. She will be greatly missed by them and especially her four children: Diane (Ronald) Bregenzer, Carol (Ted) Krause, Leslie Williams, and Craig (Pat) Hopple. We all feel blessed and thank God for the many years we were given with our parents. A private memorial service will be held for the family. Donations may be made to St. Judes Research Center, ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) or Kids Unlimited. The Walker Funeral Home is assisting the family. Condolences can be expressed online at walkerfuneralhomes.com.
