Lorna May Ballin died Monday, March 22, 2010, at Riverview Healthcare Campus, Oak Harbor. She was born March 13, 1924, to Chester and Emma May Ballin. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Lewis, who was killed in action during WWII. Lorna graduated from Oak Harbor High School in 1942 and entered the Cadet Nurse program at the Toledo Hospital in 1943. She graduated as an RN in 1946 and soon after moved to Santa Barbara, California. There she worked at Cottage Hospital and later at Goleta Valley Hospital in Santa Barbara. She served as Head Nurse in the ER at both hospitals. Lorna retired from nursing in 1983 and moved back home to Ohio, where she owned Chets Place Campground and Marina. She enjoyed the river and working at the campground. She retired from the business a few years ago due to poor health. Lorna is survived by cousins, Mary Martha Provonsha of Oak Harbor and Carlton Althoff of Waterford, Michigan, along with many second and third cousins. A funeral service will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 25, 2010, in the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, 165 E. Water St., Oak Harbor, with visitation one hour prior to the service from10-11:00 a.m. Burial will take place in Union Cemetery. Memorials for Lorna may be directed to the Ottawa County Humane Society or the donors choice.
