Loria Formiconi Murphy of Perrysburg, Ohio, Palm Desert, California and Elkins Park Pennsylvania, passed away Monday, December 10, 2018. Born on October 3, 1927 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late Frank and Giuseppina Formiconi and sister of the late, Lilia M. Formiconi. She was the wife of the late Daniel Joseph Murphy, Jr., Mother of Nancy Scaffa (Stephen Scaffa), Daniel J. Murphy III, Stephen Murphy (the late Diane Salvatore). Grandmother to Shannon, Shawn and the late Kelly Scaffa, DJ Murphy, Ryan and Alexandra Murphy. Loria went to William Walsh Elementary School, Thomas Junior High School and graduated from South Philadelphia High School for Girls, June 1945. She attended Epiphany Church, 11th and Jackson Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Loria graduated from Pierce Business College for Medical Terminology. She was a secretary and typist in the Department of Radiology at the University Of Pennsylvania Hospital, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania from 1946-1956 where she met her husband, Daniel. She was the secretary to the late Dr. Roy R. Greening, Associate Professor of Radiology at the University of Pennsylvania. She was known to the Radiology Department as “Foxie”. Loria, was the President and Vice President of the Melrose Academy Mother’s club for the Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She was the first President of the Fox Rox Girls Softball League. Loria was a Greeter at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Palm Desert, California and recently at St. John XXIII in Perrysburg, Ohio where she met many wonderful friends and families. Loria, enjoyed spending time and happy memories with her family and friends on St. James Place in Ocean City, New Jersey from 1972 -1982. She also enjoyed reading, cooking and playing cards with her friends at Harbor Town Senior Residence in Perrysburg, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made directly to Saint John XXIII. A Memorial Mass Celebration of Loria’s life will be held at Saint John XXIII, 24250 N. Dixie Hwy, Perrysburg Ohio on Monday, December 17, 2018. Visitation will be held from 9:30 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. and Mass will follow at 10:30 A.M. The Mass will be live streamed via the internet at www.stjohn23.org.
